COVID care by SMS hospital

1’ st WAVE COVID:

SMS Hospital was the first hospital to start a private covid facility in Ratnagiri hospital. We started 60 bed dedicated covid hospital centre at Hotel Vakratund in Lote MIDC area. We treated near about 230 serious covid patients in the covid centre with a minimum death rate. only 18 deaths in 230 patients in the first wave. We provided health facilities and treated many employees from lote MIDC and helped industries to give treatment to the employees. 2nd WAVE COVID:

The second wave of covid was very disastrous as all we know. The expectations from sms hospitals by patients and government authorities were more. There were so many patients and beds were not available. SMS hospital decided to start covid centres at 5 places. Khed, Guhagar, Dapoli, Lote and Devrukh. We tried to provide services in remote places for the convenience of patients and relatives. Although there was big outrage in hospitals regarding bills, sms hospitals charged patients at government rates and that gave a 20% concession. We thanks our donors/industries to support for the cause with generous donations. Again we take this opportunity to thank Vinati Organics Pvt ltd, Hindustan unileverpvt ltd. We thank the Lote Industries association for their donations. We especially thank Supriya Lifesciences Pvt Ltd for the generous donations to the covid centre. With donations from lote MIDC and the genius efforts of our covid teams which included 25 doctors and 150 paramedical and hospital staff, we could serve with better results. We treated near about 950 patients in the second wave with a mortality of just 42 patients. The mortality rate was lowest at all the SMS hospital centres. We could keep mortality at the lowest rate in spite of treating serious patients because of the expert team and best infrastructure.

SMS Hospital took initiative to keep health workers by providing PPE kits to healthcare workers and frontline workers. Swami Vivekanand research Centre CSR wing of  Excel industries helped us to do this activity. We also provided sanitization kits to frontline workers like the police department.

For the need of blood during acute shortage of blood in covid period, SMS Hospital arranged 5 blood donation camps. Camps were arranged at SMS hospital campus collecting more than 500 blood bags. For blood donation camps SMS Hospital involved private as well as government blood banks. Other social organizations like lions club, leo club, JCI. On occasion of 90^th martyrs day we organized blood donation camps in association with national organization NIFFA. The effort was recorded in guinness world book of records.

Covid disease was full of misconceptions. The disease, its treatment and fear in people’s mind was full of misconceptions. Looking into this SMS hospital started educating people at the grass root level. We worked along with Gram Panchayats and educated people regarding covid. Covid, its pathology, the disease process, and do’s and don’ts during the covid were all explained by visiting villagers at their doorsteps. When the government and district collector was asking gram panchayats to develop their own isolation canters SMS Hospital came forward by providing material and medical expertise without any charges. The medical team of SMS Hospitals were busy setting up isolation centres for so many villages. We gave a tagline whenever there is covid remember SMS:  Sanitization, Mask, Social distancing.

As there were so many misconceptions regarding the covid and management of covid there were similar or more intense misconceptions about vaccines. We educated people and promoted vaccination. As MJPJAY enrolled hospital vaccination was started at sms hospital Chiplun. And later on, we provided vaccination at all the SMS Hospital branches.  SMS Hospital provided vaccination for MIDC employees at SMS hospital centres as well as in industries at Lote MIDC through the government-approved centres and at Udyog Bhavan. Doing vaccination of 5000 people in a day was the highest record of vaccination done by SMS Hospital. We provided hospital staff for vaccination drives to government vaccination centres.  Free  Vaccination drives for frontline workers were carried out by SMS Hospital in association with Govt vaccination authorities.
